Corporate networks are filling up with AI agents. These autonomous software actors can reason through tasks, make decisions, and execute actions with minimal human input. They handle engineering pipelines, respond to customer support queries, and even manage security operations. But here is the catch: when these independent agents try to work together, the entire system often falls apart. The interaction framework degrades quickly, leaving human operators to become the manual glue between disconnected systems.

Think about it. An engineering team deploys a specialized agent on AWS. Another team runs a different model on Azure. A third uses Google Cloud. These agents speak different protocols, report to different business owners, and have no shared understanding of context. When they need to exchange information or coordinate a workflow, the result is fragile integrations, implicit rules around permissions, and a lot of frustration. This is exactly the problem Band, a startup based in Tel Aviv and San Francisco, aims to solve.

Band just exited stealth mode with a $17 million seed round. CEO Arick Goomanovsky and CTO Vlad Luzin are building what they call a dedicated interaction layer for autonomous corporate systems. The idea mirrors earlier computing evolutions. Remember when APIs needed dedicated gateways? Or when microservices required a service mesh to function at scale? The same logic applies here. As distributed systems multiply under different internal teams, throwing more business logic at the problem does not fix the underlying instability. What you need is a distinct infrastructure layer that governs how these agents interact.

The Three Shifts That Made This Necessary

Markets change slowly, then all at once. In the case of AI agents, three key shifts have turned interaction infrastructure from a nice to have into a critical requirement. First, autonomous actors have graduated from experimental sandboxes into active runtime participants. Enterprise usage is no longer a future consideration. It is an active operational state. The real question is no longer whether agents can do work, but how to manage what happens when they must collaborate.

Second, the operational environment is completely heterogeneous. Engineering teams build distinct tools across varied frameworks. Models execute on competing cloud platforms, use different communication protocols, and answer to separate business owners. No single vendor controls the whole ecosystem. No uniform framework encapsulates it either. This fragmentation is not a temporary phase. It is the permanent shape of the enterprise market.

Third, a foundational standards layer is starting to emerge. Initiatives like the Model Context Protocol (MCP) give models a uniform way to access external tools. A2A communications efforts are setting baseline conversational parameters. But here is the thing: protocols define the handshake, not the production environment. They do not manage routing, error recovery, authority boundaries, human oversight, or runtime governance. They cannot create the shared operational space needed for reliable interaction. Band intends to fill that void.

The Financial Danger of Unmanaged Automation

Deploying independent models across business units creates compounding integration challenges. If point to point integrations have to be hand wired by internal development teams, the maintenance burden will drag down profit margins and delay product releases. That is bad enough. But the financial risk extends far beyond integration costs.

When autonomous actors pass instructions between themselves without a central governor, compute expenses can balloon. Multi agent inference requires continuous API calls to expensive large language models. A single routing failure or a looping error between two confused entities can consume substantial cloud budgets within hours. Imagine an unmonitored negotiation between an internal procurement model and an external vendor model. That conversation could trigger hundreds of inference cycles, inflating token usage costs beyond the value of the underlying transaction. It is a scary thought, especially for CFOs who have just started trusting AI with real budgets.

Infrastructure layers must therefore implement hard financial circuit breakers. They need to terminate interactions that exceed predefined token budgets or computational thresholds. Without that, autonomous workflows threaten to turn predictable cloud costs into a black hole.

Hardening the Multi Agent Execution Layer

Integrating intelligent nodes with legacy corporate architecture demands intense engineering resources. Financial institutions and healthcare providers operate on heavily fortified on premises data warehouses, mainframe computation clusters, and customized enterprise resource planning applications. Without a hardened interaction infrastructure, the risk of data corruption multiplies with every automated step.

Consider this scenario. A billing model initiates a transaction while a compliance model simultaneously flags the same account. The result could be a database lock or conflicting entries. An interaction layer prevents these collisions by enforcing capability limits. It guarantees that an autonomous entity cannot force unapproved modifications to primary source systems.

Vector databases present a similar challenge. These storage systems house the contextual memories required for retrieval augmented generation. They are frequently configured in isolated environments tailored to individual use cases. If a technical support bot needs to transfer an ongoing customer interaction to a specialized hardware diagnostic bot, the contextual data must pass between isolated vector environments accurately. Data degradation happens when models are forced to interpret summarized outputs from other models rather than accessing the original, cryptographically verified data logs. Stopping this degradation requires rigid contextual borders and a central interaction mesh capable of tracing the complete lineage of all shared information.

The Liability of Contaminated Data

The risk of data contamination creates serious liability issues. If a customer service model accidentally ingests highly classified financial data from an internal audit model during a contextual exchange, the compliance violation could trigger severe regulatory penalties. Establishing a secure communication mesh allows data officers to enforce highly specific access controls at the interaction layer. That is far more manageable than trying to reconstruct the logic of individual models after the fact.

Every digital interaction needs cryptographic logging. Regulators need to trace automated decisions back to their source. Without that audit trail, companies face fines, lawsuits, and reputational damage. Band is betting that the market is ready for a dedicated infrastructure layer that handles all of this automatically.

What Comes Next for Enterprise AI

The parallel to earlier computing shifts is almost too neat to ignore. Just as APIs needed gateways and microservices needed service meshes, autonomous AI agents now need their own interaction infrastructure. The question is whether enterprises will recognize this need before the integration debt becomes unmanageable. Band’s $17 million seed round suggests that investors are betting they will. And given the financial and operational risks of unmanaged automation, that bet might turn out to be a safe one.
