When autonomous models can write exploits and shape the entire security landscape, concentrating the understanding of these systems within a handful of vendors becomes a massive operational risk. It creates a single point of potential failure, or worse, manipulation. The primary question for business leaders is no longer simply “what can this AI do?”

The critical question has become “how is this AI built, governed, and continuously improved?” As these frameworks grow in complexity and corporate importance, maintaining opaque, closed development pipelines is a strategy that’s increasingly difficult to defend, both technically and financially.

Implementing proprietary, “black box” AI introduces heavy friction into existing enterprise architecture. The long-term winners aren’t necessarily those who hoard the base layer. They are the organizations that best understand how to apply it effectively to unique business problems. We’ve seen this movie before with operating systems, web servers, and containerization. The value accrued to those who built on top of the stable, open base, not just those who owned it.
